Lidia Sharapova
Secret Garden

I started these series of self-portraits at the beginning of the lockdown in Milwaukee due to the Covid-19 pandemic. I was exploring what was available to me in this time of confined existence—trying to self-reflect and dive deep within the small world I inhabit—and I saw time flowing through the short cycle of Spring in the lives of the plants in my garden. Looking more closely at myself as well, I grew more aware of the traces that time leaves on my body and the passage of time itself. I did not want to waste time. I took lots of online classes, studying the history of photography and art. I was inspired and humbled. When the world seemed to stop outside of me, there was constant change and going forward within me.
